The nurse shall prepare and implement a comprehensive health plan to ensure that each resident’s medical, dental and other needs are met adequately and promptly. This role involves assessing medical needs, administering care, coordinating with healthcare providers and promoting health education. The nurse will report directly to the Program Director & Deputy Director of Isaiah House.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify a physician or health care organization who will assume responsibility for routine medical care of each child/client if one has not already been designated.
- Within 72 hours after admission, the nurse will ensure that each child/client receives a medical examination.
- Arrange for emergencies, routine and follow- up medical care for each child/client.
- Ensure that all children are appropriately immunized.
- Ensure that any medical, dental, psychological or psychiatric treatment and medication is explained to clients and/or parent of the child, if minor.
- Ensure that all medication is administered properly & logbooks are completed.
- Ensure that medical supplies are stocked and disbursed.
- Ensure that each client receives training in personal care, hygiene and grooming habits, if needed.
- Conduct medication training for staff quarterly.
- Administer medications, wound care, first aid and emergency care and other medical treatments, if needed.
- Attend DCP&P & state regulated medical trainings as needed.
- Support individuals in crisis, including those dealing with substance use, mental health concerns, or trauma.
- Follow and adhere to regulations mandated by DCP&P and other contracted agencies.
- Act as a liaison between agency and outside affiliates.
- Maintain medical case notes and other medical documentation for clients.
- Transport clients as needed to medical appointments, in an agency vehicle.
- Host quarterly opportunities for onsite immunizations/testing (ie. Flu shots, COVID testing etc.)
- Collaborate with DOH or workshops, testing day and disease control.
- Ensure that the agency meets OSHA requirements and provides information to staff and clients regarding safety and emergency preparedness.
- Be flexible with a wide range of tasks from the routine and predictable to the unique and unexpected
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the issues and concerns of the population served by the agency
- Be willing to venture and extend self to assist others

QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensing in Nursing a must
- 2 years’ minimum experience
- Valid New Jersey Driver License
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Computer Literate
